So the Republicans want to give masses of Americans a $100 rebate check to offset the recent increase in gasoline prices. You know what I have to say about that? Mr. President, members of Congress, you can take my 100 dollars and shove it up your candy asses!
Yet again the Republicans resort to bribing stupid ass Americans with chump change in order to secure an upcoming election. Bush used this ploy in both campaign's for President, and obviously it worked in combination with other ploys like winning over fanatical religious conservatives who are hell bent on legislating their brand of morality.
Does anyone remember the special tax refund check you got from the government as part of Bush's rolling back income taxes? I sure as hell don't, because it was barely worth cashing in. Now that doesn't mean I expected a much larger check, I didn't expect any of my money back, I only expected it to be better spent. I must say though if you're going to talk this shit up like you're doing us a big favor then motherfucker it better be a big favor. If he truly wanted to roll back big government, and help the 'tax burdened American citizens' then YES I would expect a lot more than 100 bucks! I would expect something I could actually do something with.
Bush and his gaggle of Republican minions tried to sell us on the ridiculous idea that we should take that pitiful check and 'invest them into the economy by spending them'. The theory was it would somehow stimulate the overall economy by flooding it with fresh capital. ~{LOL}~ Sure... Sounds like 'voodoo economics' to me folks. But then I've come to expect that from 'business savvy' Republicans. Just like 'trickle down' economics was supposed to help the economy & benefit the little guy at the bottom. Yeah, those of us near to the bottom see just how much it helps us... not at all. Just like the trickle down affect, those that gain the most from this were those closer to the top. I for one would like to know what kind of benefits the upper class got from those refund checks.
Regardless the amounts, what I would have rather they done was kept those pathetic checks and invested them into something worthwhile, like green technologies, including the renewable fuels that oil companies are now demanding the government grant incentives to finance. Care to guess who ends up paying for that? How about Exxon spend some of its $8.4 billion profits on those? Or investing in the education of our increasingly illiterate, drugged up, brain dead children. How about investing in our antiquated electrical grid that leaves an increasing portion of this country in the dark every summer? Or building up shoddy levee systems that put whole communities in danger of complete devastation? Hell, it would have just been nice not to have gone back into huge deficits again! What kind of idiot reduces it’s income as it spends more?

So just what the hell is this free money that the Republicans are talking about now supposed to do? Well think about it... Think hard people. When November rolls around and its time to elect a new Congress they expect it to pay off in votes. They’re hoping we’ll remember those checks and how they’re trying to stick up for us. The Democrats didn’t give you a hundred dollar check in the mail. Sorry fuckers but my vote doesn’t come so cheaply.
Now I know the Democracts are a bunch of whining pussies, they bitch and moan at all the evil things the Republicans are doing and throw stones but they propose nothing practical. They propose nothing worth doing. They don’t even propose anything half the time. But I do agree with them on this that the oil companies are ripping us off big time, bigger than ever, and Republicans are allowing it to happen. Not only do they allow it to happen, they make it easier for them. And when it comes down to it they’ll give away our lands and our taxes for them to do it. And I certainly haven’t forgotten that the Big Oil execs didn’t have to be sworn in when they went before Congress about six months ago to explain oil prices, their profits, what they’re going to do to fix things. The Democrats wanted to swear them in. Whose big idea was it not to? Ted Stevens, Republican Senator for Alaska. Yep, ALASKA where they want to drill for more oil! He didn’t just suggest it, he demanded that they need not be sworn in because the law already requires them to tell the truth… sure. And that’s why the baseball players testifying about steroids hearings, tobacco executives, and Jack Abramoff all had to be sworn in. Go figure.
A lot of things need to happen. The government must curb it’s use of oil. They can take the lead on limiting how much they burn. The masses need to conserve the use of oil. Car manufacturers need to get on the ball and produce more efficient, less expensive autos. The oil companies who are reaping record profits need to be forced to control prices, if that means dip into those profits then so be it. They also need to be forced to invest a lot more money into alternate fuels and technologies for efficiency. This needs to be done not at the expense of tax payers but at their own expense. They should think of it as an investment because eventually oil is not going to turn a profit for them anymore as it becomes more and more expensive to extract, demand goes up, and the economy collapses because it can’t withstand $150-200 a barrel for oil, among other world economic calamities looming over the horizon. No one will be able to buy their product, so they better come up with a new one. Like all businesses, you invest capital and hope like hell you turn an investment. With quarter profits into the billions, I think they can afford it.
When November does roll around I challenge everyone to remember who gave away more of our quickly dwindling pristine environment chanting 'we need more drilling; more refineries; more oil' instead of investing in alternative technologies & renewable fuels. Remember who did nothing as Big Oil repeatedly made the biggest profits in history while we paid some of the highest prices for gasoline. Remember who it is that gave away tax breaks and incentives to those megarich companies to supposedly invest in new technologies & bigger, better refineries instead of spending their own huge profits. Remember who it was that wanted to give you a little free money so you'd vote for them. You will have to ask yourself if you want to sell out like a cheap whore, or stand for something more? That decision is up to you. I don't know who I'm voting for yet, but I sure know who isn't getting my vote.
