May 1st is right around the corner and certain activist groups are trying to prove a point by organizing a massive protest, having workers and students walk out of their jobs and out of school. The idea is to show America what it would be like if we had no illegal immigrants. Yeah, if only that were true... Of course this is supposed to hurt us and make us realize how desperately we need them, however, there are two fundamental reasons why this theory is flawed. By walking out in this protest they will not be showing us how badly we need them. I'll explain why.

One reason is because they are calling for a mass protest not just by illegal immigrants but by anyone who supports the illegal immigrants in their cause for gaining a type of amnesty. In other words we won't just see masses of illegal workers walking out on the job, we'll see lots of legal Americans with bleeding hearts walking out on the job too. In fact, I would bet that more legals will not show up for work than illegals. Why? Illegals REALLY need the fucking money and have no job security. Walking out is not only a desperately needed days pay but maybe loss of an income. As far as I'm concerned this is going to leave us with a very skewed idea as to what it would be like living in a country with no illegal immigrants working here.

But there is another reason this ploy is flawed. It's supposed to hurt business, hurt the economy, show how much of a force they are & how much of a service they provide. What one has to take into account though is that you could pick any group and show the exact same thing, we could have women, blacks, gays, people with hazel eyes not show up for work one day. Would it show they are an important group? Yes. But it's not like people can't be replaced. And in the case of illegal immigrants in particular I think they should be replaced.

Do illegals fill a lot of jobs in this country? I'm sure, I guess we'll see... Some claim Americans won't work those jobs. Bullshit! Between the option of working to provide some sort of living or having nothing, yes good people will work. And as for the not so good people, if you take away some of their endless welfare benefits where people are afforded something for nothing, they would work too.

I think we should be stunned at just how much we have come to rely on illegal immigrants to help our economy. We should be appalled at how many people in this country are here illegally and they are also working! The fact that the outrage is as limited as it is says a lot about us, and nothing good.

We should examine how unfair it is across the board that we do rely on them. It's unfair to them, and it's unfair to American citizens that could be filling those jobs. Of course some people don't want to talk about that, they point to how important they are to our economy staying strong. Yeah, and Southerners said the same thing when the Northerners started talking about ending slavery which southern states were relying so heavily on. It wasn't just that they enjoyed having black folks maintaining their plantations, they needed them! Well regardless of how much they needed them nor how much their economy relied on them that was no justification for slavery, and today's situation is no justification for exploiting illegals in very much the same sort of way. It needs to end, now.

Of course I don't think handing the farm over to them is any better idea. Illegals should not enjoy our benefits, take our jobs, get health care, welfare, free schooling, etc. Illegals SHOULDN'T FUCKING BE HERE! So rather than stumble over ourselves trying to kiss ass enough that they'll stay and fill all these jobs we need to be giving those jobs to legalized American citizens. We need to be sending illegals back from whence they came. We need to string a REAL fence across that border, and put serious pressure on Vincente Fox to get his shit together and build up his economy. We already gave Mexico a lot of our jobs with NAFTA and we didn't get shit to show for it. The economy is still in shambles and Mexicans are still flooding our country. Those jobs we lost to Mexico have now gone much farther away as companies have yet again picked up and moved off to whatever place has the cheapest labor for them to exploit. They will continue to as long as they are allowed to.

My final thought is that in two days we'll get to feel the might of the illegals as they have their national 'sit out' from work and school. When they do we need to ask ourselves if we want to continue the status quo of giving up our jobs to illegals, running our economy off of exploitation, giving away benefits to people who simply walked across a border, to remake the same mistakes we've made several times before, or do we want to turn things around now that we have an opportunity to do so.

As for the illegals I say bring it on with your bad selves. But don't just quit for a day, walk the fuck off your jobs completely, drop out of school. You will be replaced. It's about time real Americans enjoyed those wages & benefits. Maybe we can finally put the right people in the right places and the illegals can go home where they belong.
