| Roe vs. Wade for men? | 11:13 pm |

There is a certain injustice that has been brought to my attention as of late and so I'd like to discuss it. I'd like to first of all say that while I don't support the notion of abortion, I don't think it's ethical, I also don't believe that it should be banned. For the most part I support the implications that Roe vs. Wade has had in granting women the right to choose whether to carry their pregnancy to full term and deliver their child or not. I also know that there are a lot of instances where women are taken advantage of by their boyfriends, husbands, even fathers in what they are allowed to do about their pregnancy. This isn't right, it's a shame that it happens, and we as a society need to ensure that those who should be involved in such decisions have a part and that ultimately the person that has the greatest to gain or lose has the most final say.

That aside, there is another issue that I also think is also very important, it too involves decisions being made for someone that has implications for perhaps the rest of their lives. It begs the question as to what we're going to do to make it fair, giving a degree of power and choice to someone whose life is greatly impacted by decisions made by those who hold seemingly hold the ultimate authority in making such decisions.

This need not be reduced to attacks at responsibility and demands that people own up to them. Ideally speaking women should take their pregnancies to full term and have their babies, and the men that impregnated them should help support that child, but we don't live in an ideal world. We live in a world in which sometimes pregnancies are unwanted. Sometimes they can completely ruin one's plans or one's life. Sometimes it may be best for all concerned if the pregnancy is aborted or at least if those involved are able to 'opt-out' of involvement with it. As it stands women have almost the entire share of options, men have only preemptive ones. If things are going to be fair then changes are going to have to be made.
